How Far Ahead Should I Plan a Child’s Birthday Party?

Children’s birthday parties have come a long way over the years. These days, there is so much more to do for a child’s birthday party. What once consisted of cake and ice cream is now all about bounce houses, clowns, and more. When it comes to planning a great birthday party for your child, you need to be well-prepared. The larger the party, the more planning you will have to do. This means, you need to start as early as possible. At times, some parents may even want to start 3 months ahead to help secure a venue and vendors for the bash. A lot of what you plan to have at the party and the number of people attending will determine when you need to start planning. Here are some things you should consider:

The more people you are planning on inviting, the earlier you will have to start planning. If you only plan to have a few immediate family members, they won’t expect nearly as much as say you invite your child’s whole class to come. Planning the guest list and getting invitations out should take about a month to do. Before you do this, you need to have some other details secured first. This will determine what your timeline will be. Make sure you send out the invitations at least 2 weeks in advance to ensure everyone gets it in time to book the date.

Securing a Venue

Another big thing on your planning list is securing the right venue. If you plan to have the birthday party at your home, you won’t have to plan it as early as if you had it elsewhere. Many places will get booked up for other events closer to time you want to have it, so it is always best to book the venue as early as possible. If it is a popular place, you will need to book it about 2 months in advance to ensure you get the date you want.

If you plan on having vendors at your child’s party, these will need to be booked in advance as well. You want to make sure it doesn’t interfere with wedding season on holidays. During these times, the vendors may get booked up quicker. Otherwise, you can probably book your vendors around the same time as you book your venue.

One of the last things you have to worry about is the food and decorations. Unless you plan on having someone else handle the food, you can probably plan the food about 2 weeks in advance. This will allow you to obtain all the ingredients and items you need ahead of time so you aren’t running around right before the party.

By starting the planning process three months in advance, you can feel confident that you will not be rushed towards the end. This will allot enough time to book the venue and vendors as well as pick up the food and decorations.
